Stan Bowman steps down as general manager of the U.S. Olympic ice hockey team amid scandal

Stan Bowman stepped down as general manager of the US Olympic hockey team amid a harassment scandal, according to the USA Hockey Federation website.

“In light of what has happened today, I believe it is in the interest of the federation that I step aside,” Bowman, 48, said.

“We thank Stan for all his efforts,” said USA Hockey Chief Executive Pat Kelleher. “He has played an important role in American hockey for a long time.” The Federation plans to announce the name of Bowman’s replacement soon.

In May, the former NHL Chicago player filed a lawsuit against the club, accusing former video coach Brad Aldrich of sexual assault before winning the 2010 Stanley Cup.

It was announced on Tuesday that the NHL had fined Chicago $ 2 million for inadequate internal procedures and insufficient and untimely response to the incident involving Aldrich.

The investigation revealed that the Blackhawks management, including Bowman, who served as general manager of the club since 2009, reacted inappropriately to the incident.

According to media reports, Bowman left a similar position at Chicago.

During his tenure, the club won the Stanley Cup three times.

The Beijing Olympic Hockey Tournament will take place from 9 to 20 February 2022. Team USA will play against teams from Canada, Germany and China in the group stage.
