A US soldier claims to have been attacked by a group of Afghan refugees who are temporarily held at an army base in New Mexico, site commanders said.
After leaving Afghanistan, the United States agreed to host tens of thousands of residents of the country who collaborated with American forces during the 20-year campaign or belong to other risk groups.

“We can confirm that a female soldier … reported that on September 19 she was attacked by a small group of evacuees of males at the Doña Ana complex in New Mexico,” the release said.

The FBI is investigating the incident, the details of which were not disclosed. The command assured that the victim was immediately provided with the necessary assistance, and security measures were strengthened at the base.

The first group of refugees, numbering 37,000, is in the United States. The administration has asked Congress for money to receive up to 95 thousand people by September 2022, writes the AP agency. Many Afghans who are supposed to be settled in the United States remain in transit camps deployed at American military bases abroad. Their delivery to the United States has been temporarily suspended due to an outbreak of measles among refugees.
